1. Take more time for each experience. Whether it's a meal, a chat with a friend, a walk through your garden or a stolen moment for you and your passion project -- take time to really breathe in the experience. Conscious breathing is important. Most of us never digest our experiences. We just rush through them. No wonder our physical digestion is often poor as well!
2. Practice deeper awareness of what you're doing and why. You can set a few alarms on your phone at random times during your day, and when they go off, just ask yourself, "What am I doing right now? Did I choose to do this and why?" Another wonderful question to ask is, "What is happening right this moment that is beautiful? Or that I can be grateful for?" This will help you see the way you're living in random moments and help you practice awareness in the 'real world.'
3. Pay attention to your consumption. We often eat when we're not hungry, or we buy shoes when we already have six pairs just like them! Geneen suggested that we experiment with doing nothing else while we eat. Be conscious as you eat, really be there with the food. Notice what you're feeling and what you're tasting!
Since doing these things, I'm noticing how my food tastes better (and I've lost a few pounds), my experiences feel deeper, and my life feels juicier and richer. Marci Shimoff
